Description : Trees to 15 m tall. Stipules triangular, 1–1.5 cm long, entire, not keeled, glabrous to slightly pubescent, clasping flattened terminal bud. Leaves broadly ovate to ovate-oblong, 10–15 by 5–12 cm, base cordate to obtuse, sometimes unequal, apex acute to acuminate, chartaceous, glabrous above and below or at least sparsely hairy below, lateral veins 6–12 pairs, glabrous to sparsely hairy; petiole ca 3–6 cm long, glabrous to pubescent. Inflorescences terminal, up to ca 15 cm long, with generally 7–11 globose flowering heads 1.5–2 cm in diam. across corollas; interfloral bracts ca 1 mm long. Calyx densely finely villous; tube ca 1 mm high; lobes ca 0.5 mm long. Corolla (pale) orange, outside densely finely woolly puberulous; tube ca 4–5 mm long, pubescent inside; lobes up to 1 mm long. Stamens with anthers to 1 mm long, protruding from throat. Ovary up to 1 mm long, densely pallidly villous; style exserted for ca 4–6 mm; stigma small, obovoid. Capsules elliptic, 5–7 mm long, sparsely hairy. Fruiting heads 1–1.5 cm in diam.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Nan (Doi Phukha NP); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Dan Sai, Kao Kieo Kang – type of Adina nobilis: Kerr 5767, holotype -K, isotypes -BK BM TCD).


Distribution : As for genus (Japan – type).


Ecology : Lower montane rain forests, 1,100–1,500 m alt. Flowering: February.
