Description : Evergreen or semi-evergreen tree to 40 m tall; twigs often drooping; young shoots, leaves and inflorescences puberulous to pubescent. Stipules lanceolate, 1–1.5 cm long, very early caducous. Leaves 20–25 cm long; petioles 1.5–4 cm long; rachis 10–30 cm long, glabrous to glabrescent. Leaflets 5–11, broadly ovate to elliptic or sometimes orbicular, 4–15 by 2–9 cm, terminal one larger than the others, apex abruptly acuminate, mucronate, base rounded to broadly cuneate, sometimes truncate, upper surface glabrous, lower surface glabrous to glabrescent; midrib flat or impressed above, lateral veins 8–10 pairs; petiolules 3–5 mm long, glabrous to puberulous. Inflorescences in upper leaf axils and terminal, usually branched (panicle), sometimes raceme, 10–20 cm long; bracts and bracteoles filiform, 3–6 mm long, very early caducous; pedicels 5–10 mm long, puberulous. Calyx 5–6 mm long, puberulous. Corolla yellow to orangish yellow; standard broadly ovate to orbicular ca 10 mm diam., apex emarginate, base cuneate, claw ca 4 mm long; wings oblong, 7–8 by ca 5 mm, claw ca 4 mm long; keel oblong, ca 6 by 3–4 mm, claw ca 4 mm long. Stamens diadelphous in 2 lateral bundles of 5 each. Ovary hairy; ovules 3–4. Pods broadly elliptic to orbicular, 3–5 cm diam., densely pubescent when young, 1–2-seeded. Seeds oblong-reniform, 8–10 by 4–5 mm, reddish brown to dark brown.
Thailand : PENINSULAR: Ranong, Phangnga, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Yala.
Distribution : India (type), China, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malesia.
Ecology : Along margins and open areas of evergreen forests, to 600 m alt. Cultivated as ornamental tree throughout the country.
Vernacular : Du ban (ดู่บ้าน)(Northern); pradu ban (ประดู่บ้าน), pradu king on (ประดู่กิ่งอ่อน) pradu lai (ประดู่ลาย)(Central); sa-no (สะโน)(Malay-Narathiwat).
