Description : Tree 25–40 m tall; young shoots, leaf-rachis, inflorescences and calyces velvety tomentose. Stipules small, caducous. Leaves with petioles ca 4 cm long; rachis 9–16 cm long. Leaflets 5–13, oblong-oblanceolate, 5.5–10 by 2.5–5.5 cm, apex acute to short acuminate, base rounded to subcordate, coriaceous, upper surface glabrous or glabrescent along midrib, lower surface velvety to tomentose; lateral veins 6–10 pairs; petiolules 5–6 mm long. Inflorescences terminal, paniculate, up to 15 cm long; pedicels 3–4 mm long. Calyx ca 5 mm long; teeth ovate acute, ± as long as tube. Corolla pinkish white; limb of standard orbicular, emarginate, ca 8 mm diam.; claw short; wings and keel oblong, ca 9.5 by 3.5 mm. Ovary densely hairy; ovules 2–3. Pods 1–3-seeded, broadly elliptic, oblong, torulose between the seeds if more than 1-seeded, 2.5–5 by 2.5 cm, glabrescent; valves thin, crustaceo-coriaceous. Seeds compressed, broadly elliptic, ca 10 by 9 mm; testa hard, smooth, shining, red or scarlet, not easily separable from the cotyledons.

Distribution : China (Yunnan), Vietnam, Malesia (Sumatra – type).
Ecology : Evergreen forests, up to 1,100 m alt.
Vernacular : Phai lek (ไพเล็ก)(Peninsular); ma klam ton (มะกล่ำต้น)(Northern, Northeastern).
