Description : Tree to 18 m tall; young shoots, leaf-rachis, inflorescences and leaves densely appressed rusty pubescent, becoming sparsely hairy or glabrescent. Stipules small, caducous. Leaves with petioles 3.5–7.5 cm long; rachis 8–13 cm long. Leaflets 7–9, elliptic to lanceolate, 7–15 by 2.5–4 cm, apex acuminate to cuspidate, base cuneate, coriaceous, upper surface glabrous, lower surface glabrescent; lateral veins 11 pairs, inconspicuous on both surfaces; petiolules 5–8 mm long. Inflorescences mostly terminal, paniculate, sometimes axillary, racemose, 10–15 cm long; pedicels ca 10 mm long. Calyx ca 2 cm long; teeth oblong-lanceolate, acute or slightly obtuse, much longer than tube, densely appressed rusty pubescent. Corolla lavender or purplish red, fragrant; standard suborbicular, ca 2 cm in diam., upper margin strongly inflexed, yellow spotted subcentrally, claw short, ca 2 mm long, thick; wings oblong-obovate, ca 18.5 by 9 mm, claw short; keel oblong-elliptic, ca 17 by 8.5 mm., claw short. Stamens unequal; filaments basally thickly compressed. Ovary flattened, densely appressed rusty silky pubescent; ovules 4–5; style incurved, glabrescent. Pods flat, broadly oblong, 5–7 by 3.5–4 cm, apex obliquely beaked; stipe 0.5–1 cm long, compressed; valves woody, ca 2 mm thick, dehiscent, septum absent, slightly thickened at margin, tip reflexed, yellowish when dry, glabrous; calyx persistent. Seeds 1–4, oblong-ellipsoid, 2.5–3 by 1.5–2 cm, slightly flattened, obtuse at ends; testa crustaceous, red, fragile when dry and free from cotyledons.
