Description : Herbs, perennial, glabrous, diffuse, 10–40 cm tall; stems several, arising from a cluster of slender fibrous roots, decumbent, branched. Leaves in a rosette, biternate, triangular, 2–5 by 1–4 cm, terminal and lateral segments up to 1.5 by 1.2 cm, coarsely crenate-dentate, membranous, green above, glaucous beneath; petiole 5–10 cm long, base sheathed. Inflorescences 2–6-flowered, 2–5 cm long; bracts obovate to oblong, 6–10 mm long. Flowers with pedicel 3–5 mm long, elongating to 5–10 mm in fruit. Sepals rounded, peltate, 1–2 mm in diam., finely dentate. Corolla purple or whitish-purple; upper petal 20–25 mm long, acuminate, lower surface with short crest ca 1 mm wide; spur straight, slightly tapering to apex; lower petal 10–12 mm long, lower surface shortly crested; inner petals 9–11 mm long. Ovary linear; style slender, half as long as ovary; stigma square in cross-section, with 6 marginal simple papillae. Capsules linear, 18–25 by ca 1.5 mm. Seeds ca1.5 mm long, smooth, shining.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Mae Hong Son (Doi Khun Huai Pong), Chiang Mai (Chiang Dao WS – type of Corydalis siamensis Craib: Kerr 6582, type -BM K; Doi Mon Chong).
Distribution : India, Nepal, Bhutan (type), Myanmar, SW China.
Ecology : Upper montane forests, 1,800–2,050 m alt. Flowering and fruiting: March–December.
Vernacular : Phim philai (พิมพิไล).
