Description : Shrubs to small trees, 0.5–15 m tall; outer bark yellowish grey to brown, smooth to finely fissured, inner bark pink to reddish with honey coloured exudate. Leaves elliptic-oblong, elliptic-lanceolate to lanceolate, 5–16 by 1.4–5.7 cm; apex acute, cuspidate to acuminate; base cuneate to acute; midrib not very obvious on either surface, slightly more prominent on abaxial surface; veins conspicuous; coriaceous to thin and delicate; sometimes glaucous; petioles 0.4–1.6 cm long. Flowers solitary, axillary or terminal; pedicel up to 1.9 cm long; flowers 1–1.9 cm across. Sepals subequal, coriaceous, persistent. Petals white; oblong, shortly acuminate, caducous. Stamens in fascicles, numerous, 1.5–2 cm long; anthers white to yellow. Fruits green; ovoid to ellipsoid, with acute tip, 3.5–4.5 by 3–3.5 cm, crowned by the persistent calyx. Seeds 1–4.


Thailand : PENINSULAR: Ranong, Surat Thani (Kaeng Krung NP), Phang Nga (Sri Phangnga NP), Krabi (Khao Phanom), Nakhon Si Thammarat (Khao Luang), Phatthalung (Na Thawi), Satun (Thale Ban NP), Songkhla (Hat Yai, Sadao, Ban Thepha, Yao Island), Yala, Narathiwat (Waeng, To Mo, Sungei Padi).


Distribution : Malaysia (type, Perak), Singapore.


Ecology : Open area of evergreen forests, 50–600 m alt. Flowering: March–June; fruiting: May–September.


Vernacular : Nak but (นากบุด), nak but khao (นากบุดเขา)(Peninsular).
