Description : Erect, procumbent or ascending herbs, 60–100(–120) cm tall; stem and branches terete, glabrous, moderately pubescent or glabrescent. Leaves with petioles (1–)3–10(–12) mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent; lamina elliptic, ovate or elliptic-ovate, (4.5–)6–15(–18) by 1–3.5(–4.5) cm, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate or attenuate, margin entire or with hispid hairs, 0.5–1 mm long, glabrous, densely to moderately pubescent or glabrescent on both surfaces, not punctate; secondary veins (9–)10–19(–22)-paired, glabrous or sparsely pubescent. Ocreae cylindrical, (0.8–)1–2.5(–3) cm long, scarious, glabrous or densely pubescent, venation inconspicuous, apex truncate or slightly oblique, with 9–22(–25) bristles, (4–)5–13(–16) mm long. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, spicate panicle, (5.5–)9–22(–30) cm long, erect; inflorescence branches grabrous, glabrescent or pubescent; side branches (1.5–)2.5–8(–9.5) cm long, cylindrical or pyramidal, dense-flowered, rachis inconspicuous; leafy bracts absent or 2–7(–10) by 0.2–1 cm, elliptic, ovate or ovate-elliptic, apex acute, acuminate or cuspidate, margin entire with ciliate or hispid hairs. Flowers 4–11 in an ocreola; pedicels (1.5–)2.5–3.5 mm long, glabrous; bracteoles 1.5–3 mm long, hyaline, with 1–2 veins; ocreolae completely enclosing rachis, (1.5–)2.5–3.5 mm long, glabrous or hispid, without glandular dots, apex obtuse, acute or acuminate, margin entire with bristles. Tepals 5, white or pink; lobes 1–3 by 1–1.5 mm, ovate, apex obtuse, glandular dots absent, veins 3; tube 0.5–1.5 mm long, glandular nectaries 8. Stamens 8, in two whorls, outer ones 1–2 mm long, inner ones 1.5–3 mm long, anthers white. Styles 3, 1–2 mm long; stigmas capitate, white. Fruits with scarious perianth, triangular, 1.5–3(–3.5) by 1–1.5(–2) mm, shiny black.
