Description : Climber to 2 m long; stem and branches slightly terete, moderately scabrous. Leaves with petioles (3.5–)4–5(–5.5) cm long, moderately scabrous; lamina ovate, (6–)7–10 by 4.5–6(–7) cm, apex cuspidate, base attenuate or oblique-attenuate, margin entire, scarious on secondary veins of both surfaces, secondary veins 8–10-paired. Ocreae cylindrical, 5–8 mm long, hyaline, glabrous, venation inconspicuous, apex truncate and slightly oblique, without bristles. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, 22–30(–35) cm long, erect or pendulous; inflorescence branches densely scabrous, without glandular dots; side branches 4–6(–7) cm long; leafy bracts (15–)30–50(–60) by (1–)25–35(–45) mm, ovate, apex acuminate. Flowers fascicled, with 3(–4) flowers; pedicels 4–5 mm long, glabrous; bracteoles 0.6–1 mm long, hyaline, without veins; ocreolae tubular-triangular, completely enclosing rachis 1.8–2 mm long, scabrous, without glandular dots, apex aristate, densely scabrous. Tepals white, without glandular dots, vein 1; lobes 1–1.5 by 1–1.2 mm, elliptic, apex obtuse; tube ca 0.1 mm long; outer 3 with wings, inner 2 without wings, white. Stamens in a single whorl; filaments white, swollen at base, 1.5–1.8 mm long; anthers 0.2–0.3 mm long, white, oblong. Styles 3, ca 0.5 mm long; stigmas lobed, with 3 ridges on stigma lobes, white. Fruits with 3 wings, whitish green.

Distribution : China, Taiwan, Bhutan, Japan (type),Vietnam.
Ecology : Cultivated as vegetable plant.
Vernacular : Cho wu (โชวู).
