Description : Stem up to 10 m long, angled, moderately to densely pubescent. Leaves with petioles 1.5–2.5 cm long, moderately puberulous; lamina 8–13 by 6–8(–9) cm, deltoid, glabrous with puberulose hairs on primary and secondary veins of lower surface, base truncate or cordate, apex obtuse or cuspidate, margin entire, secondary veins 17–21-paired. Ocreae usually deciduous. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, 6–8(–10) cm long excluding tendril, erect or pendulous, tip usually with tendrils; inflorescence branches densely puberulous, without glandular dots; side branches 2–3 cm long; leafy bracts (20–)30–60 by (10) 15–30(–35) mm, ovate, apex acuminate. Flowers 6–7 in an ocreola; pedicels 2–4 mm long, densely puberulous; bracteoles 1–1.5 mm long, same as ocreola, without vein; ocreolae triangular, incompletely enclosing rachis, 2–2.5 mm long, densely puberulous, without glandular dots, apex acuminate. Tepals pink or white, without glandular dots, veins 3; tube 5–8 mm long, with wings, outer 3 lobes 10–12 by 5–8 mm, cordate, apex acute, inner 2 lobes 8–10 by 2–3 mm, elliptic, apex acute. Stamens in a single whorl; filaments pinkish white, 2–3.5 mm long; staminal column 0.5–0.8 mm long; anthers 0.2–0.3 mm long, yellow, oblong. Styles 3, 1.2–1.5 mm long; stigmas reniform, yellow.


Thailand : Introduced and widely cultivated throughout the country.


Distribution : Mexico (type), C America, introduced in West Indies, Asia, Africa.


Ecology : Cultivated as an ornamental plant.


Vernacular : Phuang chom phu (พวงชมพู), phuang nak (พวงนาค)(Central); chomphu phuang (ชมพูพวง)(Bangkok); ngon nak (หงอนนาค)(Pattani).
