Description : Tree, 20–30 m tall, obscurely buttressed. Indumentum shortly fine reddish brown tufted tomentose, densely on buds, young twigs, stipules, lower surface of leaves, inflorescences, bracteoles and flower buds. Buds ovoid, small. Stipules linear lanceolate, 2–5 by 0.5–0.8 mm. Leaves oblong, ovate-oblong to ovate lanceolate, 6–17 by 2–7 cm, shiny on upper surface; base broadly cuneate to rounded; apex acuminate; secondary nerves 10–15 on each side, slightly raised on both surfaces, intermediate nerves many; tertiary nerves reticulate; midrib slightly depressed above; petioles 0.5–2 cm long. Inflorescences 5–12 cm long, irregularly branched; branchlets to 4 cm long, bearing 2–4 flowers; bracteoles ovate, to ca 4 mm long, early caducous. Flower buds ovoid-oblong, 6–8 by 3–4 mm, densely pubescent; pedicels 1–2 mm long. Calyx lobes subequal, ovate oblong to ovate lanceolate, to ca 6 by 1–2 mm, 2 outer with obtuse apex, 3 inner with acuminate apex. Petals obovate oblong, 5–9 by 2–6 mm, obtuse, thin. Stamens 15; filaments gradually broadening to base, ca 1 mm long; anthers lanceolate, ca 0.3 mm long, 2 inner thecae slightly shorter than the outer 2, with sparse or dense short bristles at margins; connective-appendages to ca 1 mm long. Ovary subglobose, 1–1.5 mm in diam., densely tomentose; style 4–5 mm long, often wrinkled when dry, densely tomentose; stigma shallowly 3-lobed. Fruiting calyx united at base; 2 longer lobes 4–5.5 by 0.7–1 cm; 3 smaller lobes 1.5–2 by 0.5–0.7 cm, acuminate; fruit pedicels 1–2 mm long. Nut 0.7–1 cm in diam., densely tomentose; style remnant 5–7 mm long.


Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Prachuap Khiri Khan (Bang Saphan Noi); PENINSULAR: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Krabi, Trang, Narathiwat.


Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo.


Ecology : Evergreen forests, lowland to hillsides, under 300 m alt. Flowering: February–August; fruiting: September–October.


Vernacular : Khiam (เคี่ยม), khiam khao (เคี่ยมขาว), khiam dam (เคี่ยมดำ), khiam daeng (เคี่ยมแดง).
