Description : Perennial, scandent, rhizomatous herb, 2–5 m long; stems elongated, flexuous,much-branched above, pubescent or glabrous, lower part becoming woody with pale bark when old. Leaves ovate-lanceolate to elongate-triangular, 2.5–12 by 2–4.5 cm, broadly cuneate, truncate, apex sharply acuminate, hastate or rarely cordate at base, margins rarely subentire, usually shallowly or deeply dentate, sometimes lobulate or pinnatifid, at least towards base, with 2–6 smaller lateral lobes, both surfaces shortly pubescent to glabrous, pinnately veined; petioles 0.5–1 cm long, pubescent or subglabrous, exauriculate or with small auricles at base; upper leaves becoming smaller, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, apically attenuate. Inflorescences in divaricately branching, copious, terminal, compound thyrses; peduncles 1–2 cm long, with a few bracteoles. Capitula radiate, ca 2.5 cm diam. at flowering; branches and peduncles densely to sparsely puberulous; involucres cylindrical-campanulate, 5–8 by ca 7 mm, calyculate, calycular bracts ca 8, linear-subulate, 2–3 mm long; phyllaries 12–13, uniseriate, linear-lanceolate, herbaceous with broad scarious margins, puberulous or glabrous, apex acuminate, upper margins ciliate-puberulous; receptacle areolate, naked. Ray florets 8–10 per capitulum, pistillate; rays yellow, oblong, 9–10 by ca 2 mm, apex obtuse, 3-denticulate. Disc florets ca 30 per capitulum, bisexual; corollas yellow, ca 7.5 mm long, 5-lobed, lobes ovate-oblong, acute, apically papillose, basal tube 3.5–4.5 mm long. Achenes cylindrical, ca 3 mm long, setuliferous; pappus ca 7.5 mm long, white.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Khun Huai Pong, Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Inthanon, Doi Pha Hom Pok, Doi Chang, Fang); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Phu Kradueng).


Distribution : Himalayas (Nepal – type), S China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia (Sulawesi), Japan.


Ecology : Open grasslands or edges of evergreen forests with bamboo, 1,170–2,540 m alt. Flowering: October–December.


Vernacular : Khang hang lueai (ขางหางเลื้อย)(Chiang Mai).
