Description : Annual herb, 30–60 cm tall; stems erect, white woolly, branched above, branches ascending. Leaves cauline, rather numerous, lower leaves withering before flowering, median leaves congested, linear, 4–5 by 0.25–0.7 cm, apex acute, base semiamplexicaul, auriculate, upper surface of leaves green, short curly hairy, lower surface of leaves densely white woolly. Inflorescences in corymbs, rather congested at flowering. Capitula ca 7 mm diam. at flowering; involucres globose-campanulate, ca 4 by 6–7 mm; phyllaries 5-seriate, imbricate, scarious, yellowish, white pubescent abaxially, reflexed after flowering; receptacle moderately convex, areolate, naked. Marginal florets numerous, pistillate; corollas filiform ca 2.5 mm long, shorter than style. Disc florets ca 8 per capitulum; corollas tubular, ca 3 mm long. Achenes oblong, 0.5 mm long, papillose; pappus of capillary bristles, dirty white.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Mae Hong Son (Mo Paeng Falls), Chiang Mai (Doi Inthanon, Doi Pui, Omkoi).
Distribution : India (Madras – type), Nepal, Bhutan, China (Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou), Japan, SE Asia.
Ecology : Dry mountain slopes, 1,000–1,400 m alt. Flowering: September–November.
