Description : Annual or biennial herb, 15–40 cm tall; stems from tap roots, simple or branched at base, white tomentose. Leaves radical and cauline; radical leaves small; cauline leaves spathulate or oblanceolate, 2–6 by 0.4–1.2 cm, apex rounded, base decurrent, margins sometimes mucronate, entire, both surfaces of leaves white woolly. Inflorescences in dense or branched terminal corymbs. Capitula ca 5 mm diam.; involucres globose-campanulate, ca 3 by 3.5 mm; phyllaries 3-seriate, imbricate, pale yellow, ovate or oblong, 2–3 by 0.75–1.25 mm; receptacle areolate, naked. Marginal florets 50–100 per capitulum, pistillate; corollas filiform, ca 2 mm long. Disc florets 5–10 per capitulum; corollas tubular, yellow, ca 2 mm long. Achenes oblong, ca 0.5 mm long, pale brown; pappus of capillary bristles, ca 2 mm long, white, hairs deciduous, falling separately.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Mae Hong Son (Pai), Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep, Doi Pui, Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Chang, Fang, Doi Inthanon, Mae Klang Luang, Bo Luang, Mae Sariang, Doi Pha Hom Pok, Muang Khu), Chiang Rai (Nong Lu), Tak (Doi Musoe), Phitsanulok (Phu Miang); NORTH-EASTERN: Phetchabun, Loei (Phu Kradueng, Phu Luang).


Distribution : India, Nepal (type), Bhutan to Japan through China (Sichuan, Guizhou), and southwards to Indonesia.


Ecology : Sunny, grassy slopes in old clearings, mossy hill evergreen forests and exposed rocky limestone ridges, 900–2,550 m alt. Flowering: April–June.
