Description : Perennial herb, 20–80 m tall; stem erect, conspicuously ribbed, puberulous with stipitate glands. Leaves ovate or elliptic, 10–30 by 3–6 cm, base attenuate, apex acute to acuminate, margins serrate, subcoriaceous, upper surface scabrous without glands, lower surface scabrous with whip-shaped hairs, and capitate glands, lateral veins 7–10 pairs; petioles to 6 cm long. Inflorescences terminal, usually of solitary capitula. Capitula broadly campanulate, 1.5–3 cm long, pedunculate; involucres hemispherical, 15–20 by 15–20 mm; phyllaries 6- or 7-seriate, imbricate, green or purple, margins entire, outer surface puberulous glandular, outer and middle phyllaries ovate to lanceolate, acuminate or aristate, upper half strongly reflexed, inner ovate-lanceolate, apex acute; receptacle glabrous. Florets more than 80; corollas funnelform, purple or white, glandular; corolla tubes 5–6 mm long, lobes 2–3 mm long; anthers 3–4 mm long, apical appendage acute, base obtuse; styles purple. Achenes subterete, 3.5–4.5 mm long, 10-ribbed, glabrous; pappus of bristles, uniseriate, 1–3 mm long, caducous.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai.
Distribution : Endemic.
Ecology : Restricted to limestone mountains, ca 1,300 m alt. Flowering: October–December.
Vernacular : Akkhani thewa (อัคคนีเทวา).
Notes: Koyamasia calcarea can be distinguished by its oblong achenes, 3-porate pollen and reflexed phyllaries. Its capitula are also larger than those of K. curtisii.
