Description : Shrub or subshrub, 2–6 m tall; young branches inconspicuously ribbed, white puberulous. Leaves 7–13 by 2–4 cm, oblanceolate, apex acute, base attenuate, margins serrate, chartaceous, upper surface puberulous, without glands, lower surface puberulous with whip-shaped hairs, cylindrical hairs and capitate glands, lateral veins 7–12 pairs; petioles to 1 cm long. Inflorescences terminal, corymbose. Capitula narrowly campanulate, 14–16 mm long, pedunculate; involucres slightly oblong-cylindrical, 8–10 by 3–4 mm; phyllaries 5- or 6-seriate, imbricate, green, margins piliferous, outer surface arachnoid without glands, outer and middle phyllaries ovate, apex obtuse, inner lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, apex obtuse or rounded; receptacle convex, 1–1.5 mm diam., hairy. Florets 5–10; corollas funnelform, purple or white, glandular, basal tubes 6–7 mm long, lobes 4–4.5 mm long; anthers 4–4.5 mm long, apical appendage acute, base obtuse; styles purple, 9–10 mm long, branches 2, 4–5 mm long. Achenes turbinate, 3–3.5 mm long, 10-ribbed, covered with dense setulae and capitate glands; pappus bristles biseriate, inner 8.5–9 mm long, persistent.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai.


Distribution : China (Yunnan), India, Nepal, Myanmar.


Ecology : Evergreen or pine-oak forests, 1,000–2,000 m alt. Flowering: December–April.


Vernacular : Phim phai lin (พิมพ์ไพลิน).


Notes: This species is characterised by being a distinctly sweet-smelling shrub or subshrub, with obtuse phyllaries.
