Description : Subshrub or shrub, 0.5–1.7 m tall; stem erect, woody at base, with dense long pilose hairs and glandular hairs. Leaves petiolate; ovate to oblanceolate, elliptic, 5–38 by 1.5–15 cm, apex acute or acuminate, base attenuate, margins serrate or doubly serrate, sinus sometimes with teeth, thinly papyraceous, bright green, upper surface pilose, with glandular hairs, lower surface villous, with long pilose hairs and glandular hairs; petioles 0.5–1 cm long. Inflorescences terminal and/or axillary, large, loose panicles, 29–45 cm long. Capitula 8–10 mm diam.; peduncles 12–15 mm long, viscid; involucres campanulate; phyllaries 5-seriate, outer lanceolate with ciliate margins, 0.3–0.4 mm wide, apex acute, puberulous with hairs and stipitate glands, reflexed, inner linear-lanceolate with scarious margins, with glandular hairs; receptacle 3–4 mm diam., flat or slightly convex, alveolate, glabrous or minutely fimbrillate. Marginal floret corollas yellow, basal tube 5.7–6.5 mm long, apex lobes generally glabrous; style arms ca 1 mm long, base swollen. Disc floret corollas yellow, basal tube 5.7–7 mm long, apex lobes oblong-lanceolate, 0.5–0.6 mm long, pubescent with long multicellular and glandular hairs; anthers 1.4–1.5 mm long, apical appendages truncate to emarginate, bases with branched tails, anther-tails shorter than anther collars; style arms ca 1 mm long, base swollen. Achenes oblong, 6–10-ribbed, 0.8–1.2 by 0.2–0.3 mm, setuliferous; pappus bristles 17–22, 6–7 mm long, reddish, persistent.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Inthanon, Doi Pha Hom Pok, Doi Suthep; NORTH-EASTERN: Phetchabun (Nam Nao NP), Loei (Phu Kradueng); SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi (Khao Soi Dao); PENINSULAR: Ranong (Khao Phota Luang Kaeo).
Distribution : Nepal Himalaya (type from the valleys between Nepal and Noakote), N India, Bhutan, Myanmar, China (Hainan, Taiwan, Tibet, Guangdong, Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan), Taiwan, the Philippines, Indochina, Malaysia, Indonesia.
Ecology : Clearings in open evergreen forests, 475–1,900 m alt. Flowering: October–May.
Vernacular : Nat hom (หนาดหอม)(Central).
