Description : Perennial herb, 20–35 cm tall; stems erect, solitary or 2 or 3 from base, unbranched, rather slender, brownish pilose. Leaves mostly clustered at middle of stem, a few smaller cauline leaves scattered above; clustered leaves elliptic-lanceolate to elliptic-ovate, 4–9 by 1–3 cm, apex acute to acuminate, base acute to acuminate or cuneate, attenuate into petiole, margins mucronate-serrate, upper surface green, glabrous, lower surfaces usually white curly hairy, sparsely pale brownish pilose to glabrous, 3-veined; petioles 4–10 cm long. Inflorescences in racemes or panicles, consisting of groups of generally 3–4 capitula; peduncles minutely puberulent, white curly hairy, 1–5 mm long. Capitula tubular; involucres, ca 10 by 3–4 mm; phyllaries multiseriate, imbricate, outer ovate, 1–2 mm long, scarious, striate, glabrous abaxially, margins purplish, inner narrowly oblong, ca 1.5 mm wide; receptacle flattened, naked. Florets 3 per capitulum; corollas bilabiate, 12–13 mm long, apex irregularly deeply lobed, basal tube 5.5–6.0 mm long. Achenes oblanceolate, 5.5–7.5 mm long, slightly compressed, striate, densely appressed setuliferous; pappus of capillary bristles, ca 7 mm long, plumose, brownish.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Inthanon, Doi Tok), Chiang Rai (Doi Pacho); SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi.
Distribution : India (type of Ainsliaea silhetensis (DC.) C.B.Clarke from Silhet), Nepal (type), Bhutan, Myanmar, China (Yunnan), Laos, Vietnam.
Ecology : Dry pebbly ground or among limestone rocks on partly open ridges in pine or open hill evergreen forests, 1,050–2,100 m alt. Flowering: November–December.
