Description : Shrub to 1 m tall; twig densely covered with setose (basal gland) hairs. Leaves spiral, broadly elliptic, obovate or oblanceolate, (1.5–)2.5–5 by (1-)1.5–3 cm, thickly chartaceous, glabrous and dark green above, whitish beneath, sparsely provided with appressed basal glandular hairs; base cuneate to subrounded; margin serrate with a swollen-based hair at tip of each tooth, usually deciduous; apex mucronate; midrib prominent beneath; veins 3–4 on each side of midrib; petiole 3–7 mm long, grooved above, with or without setose hairs. Inflorescence an axillary raceme, 1–4.5 cm long, to 15-flowered; rachis with pubescence and dark setose hairs; bracts white to pinkish white, broadly ovate to obovate, 4–7 by 3–5 mm, concave, glabrous, margin ciliate with glandular hairs, deciduous, apex apiculate; 2 apical bracteoles similar to bract, white to pinkish white, close to calyx, 4–5 by 2.5–2.9 mm, margin ciliate with glandular hairs, deciduous, apex apiculate; pedicels 2–3.5 mm, long pubescent. Calyx 3.5–5 mm long, connate at base; 5-lobed, lanceolate, 2.5–4 by 1.8–2 mm, ciliate with glandular hairs, nerves distinct. Corolla urceolate, white-pink, 4.5–5 by 3.5–4 mm, lobes subtriangular, rounded at apex, ca 1 by 1 mm, glabrous on both surfaces. Stamens 10, attached at base of corolla, flattened, 1.3–1.5 by 0.4–0.5 mm, hairy at apical part on the back; anthers 1.1 by 0.6 mm, biaristate at apex, opening by apical pore. Ovary 2 mm diam., 5-lobed, densely pilose; styles 2.4–2.5, usually pilose at base; stigma subcapitate (style not exserted). Capsules 3–3.5 mm diam. with dark purple calyx, to 8 mm diam.

Distribution : South China (S Yunnan – type).
Ecology : Open area in hill evergreen forests, 1,800–2,500 m alt.
