Description : Tree to 15 m; trunk unarmed in older trees, younger trees and coppicing branches with simple or branched thorns; bark smooth, pinkish brown; branchlets with sparse to dense short mostly hooked hairs. Leaves with petiole to 8 mm long, sparsely to densely hairy with short, hooked hairs; blade elliptic or ovate, to 11 by 5 cm, usually glabrous except for hooked hairs towards base of midvein; base cuneate, margin toothed with gland at apex of each tooth, apex relatively long acuminate; up to 6 pairs of lateral veins. Inflorescence in leaf axils, to 1 cm long, sparse to dense hooked hairs; few to several flowers, each solitary at the apex of short (to ca 1 mm) branches of the main axis. Flower pedicels to 8 mm long, sparsely hairy or glabrous; sepals 4 or 5, broadly ovate, to 2 mm long, outside glabrous or with scattered short hairs, inside densely hairy, margin ciliate. Male flower with ca 35–50 stamens, filaments to 3 mm long, glabrous. Female flower with ± globose ovary, placentae 4–6; styles united into a column for almost their entire length, column length equal to ovary diameter in emerging flowers (ca 1 mm). Fruit green ripening dull red, globose, to 2.5 cm diam., stigmas persistent; pyrenes 10–12, or fewer by abortion.
Thailand : SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi; PENINSULAR: Ranong, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat.
Distribution : Cultivated throughout the tropics. Origin unknown, but almost certainly not native to Thailand.
Ecology : Appears to flower (and fruit) continuously throughout the year.
Vernacular : Khrop (ครบ)(Pattani); kue-khu (กือคุ)(Malay-Pattani); ta khop khwai (ตะขบควาย)(Central); ma kwen khwai (มะเกว๋นควาย)(Northern).
CommonName : Chinese plum, Coffee plum, East Indian plum.
