Description : Tree, 25–40 m high; often with large buttresses; bark brownish-grey, slash reddish; young parts tawny or reddish tomentose or pubescent. Leaflets 12–20 per side, opposite or alternate, ovate-oblong, 4.5–20 by 2.5–10 cm, apex acuminate, base oblique, chartaceous or subcoriaceous, pale pink when young, pubescent on lower surface, along the nerves, lateral nerves 9–12 per side, prominent beneath, venation reticulate. Panicles much-branched. Flower greenish-white; calyx lobes broadly ovate, 4–5 by 3 mm, pubescent; petals oblanceolate or linear oblong, obtuse, 8–10 by 2 mm; disc puberulous, ca 2.5 mm diam.; filaments slender, 5–7 mm long, anthers oblong sagittate; ovary ovoid, 3–3.5 by 2–3 mm. Drupe globose, ca 2.5 cm diam., yellow when ripe.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Suthep, Siriphum Falls); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Phu Kradueng); SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi (Khao Soi Dao); PENINSULAR: Surat Thani (Ko Po); Nakhon Si Thammarat (Sao Pao), Songkhla (Bang Pien), Satun (Tarutao), Phuket (Khao Phra Thaeo).


Distribution : India, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, Malesia.


Ecology : In evergreen forests by streams, up to 400 m alt.


Vernacular : Ka-kho (กะโค), ko (โค), sang-kuan (ซังกวน), sa-kuan (สะกวน)(Malay Pattani); taku (ตะกู), tako (ตะโก), saentalom (แสนตาล้อม)(Chiang Rai); prachao ha phra ong (พระเจ้าห้าพระองค์)(Chiang Mai).
