Description : Small trees or shrubs, up to 10 m tall. Leaves chartaceous to subcoriaceous, often slightly discolorous when dry, obovate, elliptic, sometimes broad-elliptic, or suborbiculate 4–15 by 2–6 cm, base cuneate, apex acute, obtuse, or rounded, acuminate, margin remotely crenulate or subentire, nerves 4–6 per side, petiole 8–11 mm long. Inflorescences cymose, usually at the upper parts of the branchlets, axillary, to ca 11 cm long; peduncle to ca 6 cm long; pedicels very short, 1–2 mm long. Flowers white, 4-merous (occasionally with a few 5-merous). Calyx lobes almost free, ca 1 mm long. Petals oblong or slightly oblong-ovate, ca 2 by 1 mm. Stamens erect, ca 1 mm long. Disk rounded or slightly discoid, ca 1.5 mm in diam. Ovary 2-loculed, each locule 2-ovuled. Fruits obovoid, usually slightly flattened, ca 12 by 6 mm, often rhombic in cross-section, usually only one seed developed; mesocarp thick corky and soft on both sides, endocarp rather bony. Seeds obovate, ca 6 by 3 mm.
Thailand : PENINSULAR: Ranong (Ko Phayam), Phangnga (Takua Pa), Krabi, Trang, Satun (La Ngu).
Distribution : India (Andaman Islands), Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines (type).
Ecology : In or along the mangrove forests, or back-mangrove close to tidal limit, on the edge of tidal rivers, from sea level to ca 20 m alt. Flowering: January, February, May, June; fruiting: May.
