Description : Plant moderately robust, erect, 50–80 cm in diameter. Stems with rudimentary leaves on each growth segment; internodes terete or slightly dilated upwards, those bearing normally developed leaves 30–65 mm long, 1–5 mm in diameter. Leaves rudimentary and normally developed in successive pairs; lamina of normally developed leaves broadly elliptic to broadly ovate, 25–60 by 20–40 mm, cuneate at the base to an obscure petiole 2–4 mm long, rounded at the apex, 3- or 5-nerved; rudimentary leaves in pairs alternating regularly with normally developed ones, 2–4 mm above each leafy node, ragged, ca 1 mm high. Inflorescences commonly terminal, often in threes, sometimes axillary, a spike of 8–10 pairs of triads, 20–35 mm long; internodes 1.5–5 mm long; bracteal cup ca 1 mm long, spreading; bracteoles acute, irregularly serrate, ca 0.5 mm long. Fruit ellipsoid, smooth or finely verrucose, not seen mature.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep – type: Kerr 1300); NORTH-EASTERN: Mukdahan (Phu Hin Thoeb).


Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Cambodia, the Philippines.


Ecology : Poorly known; in Thailand recorded once from evergreen forests, recorded from 240–1,080 m alt., the only recorded host is Shorea siamensis.
