Description : Shrub to small tree. Leaves coriaceous, narrow lanceolate, tapering towards both ends, apex acute, venation parallel; upper surface glabrous, glossy, lower whitish to glaucous, puberulous; 3–5 cm long, 0.5–1 cm broad. Spikes axillary, short, few-flowered with pubescent rhachis. Bracts and bracteoles ovate, 1–2 mm long. Sepals ovate-oblong, 3–4 mm long. Corolla white-pinkish, tube 2–3 mm long; limb 5-partite with deltoid, reflexed, 2 mm long lobes, villous on the inner side. Stamens 1–2 mm long. Ovary spherical, glabrous; style 2 mm. Drupe spherical, 5 mm diam., yellowish-white to red with one stone enclosing 5 seeds.
The Thai specimens belong to var. malayana.
Thailand : PENINSULAR: Nakhon Si Thammarat (Tha Samet), Pattani, Satun (Tarutao).
Distribution : Along the coasts of S Vietnam, Cambodia, the Malay Peninsula, Singapore (type) and Maleia.
Ecology : Sandy and rocky shores and in coconut plantations, also montane in Borneo.
