Description : Tree, 4–10 m high. Young branches, petioles and peduncles covered with scurfy tomentum, mixed with brown hairs and minute scales. Leaves narrowly oblong to elliptic, 20–35 by 7.5–9(–12) cm; apex acute-acuminate; base cuneate or more or less rounded; margin wavy and serrulate; glabrescent above, thinly ferruginous-tomentose beneath; petiole 2.5–5 cm long. Flowers in axillary peduncled panicles, 20–35 cm long, including the peduncle. Sepals orbicular-ovate, 3–4 mm long, glabrescent externally. Petals pink, 6–8 mm long, erect-recurved. Ovary glabrous; styles 5, rarely 6.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Inthanon).
Distribution : E India, Nepal (type), Burma, Malay Peninsula, SW China.
Ecology : In evergreen forests, open oak forests, or in bog, low to medium altitudes, 750–2,100 m.
Vernacular : Cha san (ช้าส้าน)(Northern).
