The Global Plant Initiative Project

This site was created to support the Global Plant Initiative (GPI) joint project of the Forest Herbarium and Bangkok Herbarium, started in 2012. The GPI is an international partnership of herbaria working to create a coordinated database of information and images of plants worldwide through JSTOR Plant Science website. The GPI network of content providers currently includes 263 partners representing from 71 countries (April 2012) with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The Plant Initiatives is based upon a set of scanning and data standards developed by advisors and participants. Type scanning is done on a HerbScan (invented by Andrew McRobb of Kew and produced in the UK).
